A good elopement photographer understands that your day might look nothing like a wedding. It might be a hike to a summit. A courthouse ceremony followed by tacos. A backyard with your chosen family and no reception at all. The package should be flexible enough to match your vision — not designed around a standard timeline that doesn’t fit.
Hours of coverage. How much of your day do you actually want documented? A two-hour package works if you’re doing a simple ceremony with no getting-ready coverage. If you want the whole arc of the day, you’ll need more. Be honest with yourself about the timeline.
Gallery size and delivery time. How many photos are included? How long until you receive them? Some photographers cap galleries; others deliver everything. Six weeks and six months are both common — and very different experiences.
Travel and location fees. If your elopement involves driving more than an hour or flying somewhere, find out exactly how travel is billed. Mileage, flights, accommodations — it adds up, and it’s better to know upfront.
Film add-ons. If you want a film of your elopement as well as photos, check whether that’s offered as part of a package or separately. Booking photo and film through the same team often means better coordination and more cohesive storytelling.
Have you photographed an elopement like ours before? A courthouse elopement and a mountain elopement at altitude require different preparation. Make sure they’ve worked in conditions similar to yours.
What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate? This matters a lot for outdoor elopements. Ask about their backup plan and whether rescheduling is possible.
Can we customize the package? Rigid packages aren’t always the best fit for nontraditional days. A photographer who’s willing to work with you on hours and add-ons understands that elopements aren’t one-size-fits-all.
